When an adaptation of some novel (popular, obscure, or graphic) is announced, you've either already read it or you rush to obtain it in… Full Story »

"You are such a buzz kill"
Film Experience &bull Aug 24, 2010
That's a Juliette Lewis moment from the Jennifer Aniston comedy The Switch. I'm glad that this scene in which she (apparently) gently chastises Jason Bateman for being insufficiently perky is on Apple. It's the closest I want to come to that movie, unless there's a scene in which Patrick Wilson actually performs his "donor" duty. What? I'm only human. And speaking of... Patrick Wilson… Full Story »

Game(r) Over < PopMatters
Zibb.com: Media/Movies & Film (Industry News & Blogs) &bull Aug 23, 2010
Simple math would suggest that 'Scott Pilgrim' only played to those already prepared for it, failing to move beyond the invested in-crowd. They couldn't even reach those who loved Edgar Wright's work before. It seems fairly obvious by now the gamer population can't open a movie. Even better, the Comic-Con obsessed geek whose aesthetic is supposed to determine the future of film can't make something otherwise cinematically viable a solid hit. It happened with Watchmen. It happened again with Kick-Ass...and sadly, this past weekend, it happened again with Edgar Wright's revolutionary Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. No matter the debatable… Full Story »

Carla Gugino is a Total 'MILF', But Not Exactly How You Think
FirstShowing.net &bull Aug 20, 2010
There's plenty of people, male and female alike, who'd agree that Carla Gugino is quite a beauty. Though she played mother to Malin Akerman (another hot lady) in Watchmen, Gugino is actually only seven years older than Akerman. Now 24… Full Story »

Scott Pilgrim Vs the World: le geek, toujours chic?
Guardian Unlimited &bull Aug 19, 2010
Fanboy favourite Scott Pilgrim Vs the World didn't perform quite as expected at the US box office last week - so might this mean the end of the movie industry's love affair with the geek brigade? Let's hope not Box office results are far from the be all and end all when it comes to deciding the relative worth of a particular movie. How Will Sucker Punch Compare to 300 and Watchmen?
Film.com &bull Aug 16, 2010
I have long been on the record as a harsh critic of the work of Zack Snyder. It has nothing to do with his talent. On the contrary, I find Snyder's work visually arresting, his editing and pacing on target and his films masterfully assembled pieces of art. No, my problem has… Full Story »

Dellamorte'S Box Office Wrap Up 8/13/10
CHUD.com &bull Aug 15, 2010
I think David Poland was right on the money by comparing this to a Vs. film. Freddy Vs. Jason, Alien Vs. Predator, etc. It's what you do when you don't know what to do with franchises any more. And it's led a number to joke that this is the first weekend in a long time that Eric Roberts has outperformed Julia Roberts. But at the end of the day (regardless of quality) we know how films like Eat Pray Love do, and it's not an opening weekend picture. It - of all the rest of the summer films - has… Full Story »
